Better Writing is a private English correction coach for important work messages. Paste an email, client reply, manager update, or team message; choose Natural, Polite, Direct, or Formal; then inspect the exact correction and explanation. Suggestions can be wrong, so review important text before using it.

Better Writing requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 on iPhone and iPad, or macOS 26 on an Apple-silicon Mac. It uses Apple’s built-in on-device model when that runtime is available. Other supported devices can use a downloaded model if they meet its memory requirement. Compatibility depends on the available runtime and memory, not a promise about a particular device generation.

If Apple’s built-in model is available, make sure Apple Intelligence is enabled and ready. Otherwise, Better Writing may offer a local model in Menu → Settings → AI Engine: about 0.9 GB on supported devices with at least 3.5 GB of memory, or about 2.6 GB on devices with at least 5.5 GB. Keep enough storage and a reliable connection for the first download. Editing works offline after a compatible model is ready.

User-started controls request fixed files directly from Hugging Face: Gemma from litert-community/gemma-4-E2B-it-litert-lm revision 6e5c4f1e395deb959c494953478fa5cec4b8008f; the LFM deployment bundle from LiquidAI/LeapBundles revision e25183d6d4afe9cc0364c6330064d0744be5b5ec; and Natural Voice deployment files from mweinbach/Kokoro-82M-Swift revision 98623f832fc74ac3e2eaf2074171af7ac364b183, with base-model attribution to hexgrad/Kokoro-82M. The LFM revision identifies the distributed bundle, not a cryptographic mapping to separate source weights. No conversion or cryptographic mapping from the Kokoro base model to its deployment files is claimed.

No writing, dictated audio, screenshot, transcript, or saved app content is included. Hugging Face may process CoarseLocation, OtherDiagnosticData, and ProductInteraction with linked=true, tracking=false, for AppFunctionality, Analytics, and Other purposes under https://huggingface.co/privacy. Studio AM receives none of that provider data, analytics, or tracking.

Correction, screenshot text recognition, coaching, and Ask Your Writing run on the device. Better Writing has no Studio AM writing server, and no writing or analytics is transmitted to Studio AM. Saved writing and Coach progress stay local unless you enable optional private iCloud sync. An export, Share action, or declined-question DuckDuckGo search leaves only after you explicitly choose it. The direct-download Mac edition has a separate purchase-and-license metadata boundary described in the Privacy Policy; license requests never include writing.

There is no permanent free creation tier. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day trial on either the monthly or yearly plan. Apple shows eligibility, the current local price, and renewal terms before purchase. Prices can change. An earlier lifetime product is no longer sold, but verified owners retain Pro through Restore purchase.

Open Menu → All sessions to read, search, copy, or individually delete prior sessions, and hear saved results with the system voice. Both export actions remain available without a subscription under Your data in Settings and Archive settings. Export my writing (Markdown) creates BetterWriting-sessions.md with every saved session, its inputs and results, pending drafts, and distinct source notes such as the notes behind a saved Draft. Export complete archive creates BetterWriting-complete-archive.json with all app-owned writing and state, including pending handoffs. Creating or continuing edits, drafts, replies, coaching, practice, reminders, model work, natural-voice playback, and other fresh writing features requires active access or a restored lifetime entitlement.

On iPhone or iPad with verified active access, share selected English text or a conversation screenshot to Better Writing. The extension saves the item locally in the app’s private App Group and asks you to open Better Writing; correction, text recognition, and reply drafting happen only in the main app after it checks access again. The Share extension is not the Mac workflow. Better Writing does not send shared content to Studio AM.

Open Menu → Settings → Unlock Pro, scroll below the plan cards, and choose Restore purchase while signed in to the Apple Account that made the purchase. The lifetime product remains restore-only; it is not displayed as a plan for new customers.

Draft mode organizes notes you supply into a message, email, clear paragraphs, or an outline and marks which source points it used. Reply mode recognizes text from a conversation screenshot on-device, lets you correct the transcript, and then drafts the next English message. Review either result before sending it.

The system voice highlights each word as it reads a result, including a result you saved before access ended. With active Pro access or a restored lifetime entitlement, you can also download an optional natural voice of about 320 MB that runs on-device; natural-voice playback does not highlight words yet. Fresh writing and natural-voice playback remain Pro features.

Natural, Polite, Direct, and Formal tell the on-device editor what professional outcome you want. A style-only rewrite remains useful in history, but Better Writing does not teach it as evidence that your English was wrong. Coach uses only saved corrections whose English mistake type passes the app’s deterministic evidence check; unverified labels stay out of lessons, trends, and plans.

On iPhone and iPad, use Share, Improve Text, or Improve Clipboard. Improve Text and Improve Clipboard open Better Writing and save the correction; the return-value Improve Writing Shortcut is a quick unsaved utility. On Mac, press Shift-Command-V for copied text, run an App Shortcut, or select text in another app and choose Services › Improve Selection with Better Writing. The Mac Service opens a correction in Better Writing and never replaces text in the source app automatically.

Private iCloud sync is off by default. If enabled, Apple syncs supported saved writing and Coach progress through your private iCloud database, which Studio AM cannot read. App Lock asks the operating system for device authentication and receives only success or failure. Widgets are available on iPhone and iPad. App Shortcuts are included on iPhone, iPad, and Mac; fresh correction work still requires verified Pro access.

No. The app narrows the model’s task, checks for unsupported changes, and shows the exact word-level diff, but every suggestion is still AI-generated and can be wrong or change meaning. Review important, legal, medical, financial, academic, or professional text yourself.
