Privacy Policy

Privacy first: Fluency has no Studio AM account, third-party advertising or ad SDK, Studio AM analytics, tracking, telemetry, or cloud-sync service for your reading record. Progress is stored locally on your device. Direct requests to Studio AM's public GitHub Pages site and Hugging Face, and every other action that can send data outside the app, are listed below.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Personal information

The app requires no account, email address, or Studio AM identifier. Studio AM does not receive your reading record or the request metadata processed by GitHub or Hugging Face.

1.2 Reading record

Answers, reading times, Literacy Index and WPM history, streaks, saved words and word parts, Daily Challenge results, recall records, and Fluency Lab sittings are stored locally on your device. Fluency does not use CloudKit or a Studio AM server to sync this record.

1.3 Analytics and advertising

Fluency contains no analytics SDK, third-party advertising SDK, tracking, or Studio AM telemetry. Settings contains clearly labelled first-party links to other Studio AM apps. The two direct file-service providers described below may process request metadata for app functionality, analytics, and other purposes under their own policies. Studio AM does not receive those provider analytics.

2. Reading content and network requests

The app includes a complete reading library. It may automatically request a small public manifest over HTTPS from Studio AM's GitHub Pages site at most once per day to learn whether newer readings are available. You can also request a manual check from Today or Settings. It downloads the full corpus from that site only after you request an available update. These requests contain no reading history, passage answer, saved word, score, passage text, or Studio AM account identifier. GitHub may process approximate location derived from IP, device diagnostics, and the catalog or download interaction under its privacy statement.

StoreKit contacts Apple to load plans, purchase, and restore access. Apple processes payment and eligibility; Studio AM does not receive your payment details. The optional on-device natural voice requires a one-time download of roughly 325 MB directly from Hugging Face. That request contains no reading history, passage answer, saved word, score, or passage text. Hugging Face may process approximate location derived from IP, device diagnostics, and the model-download interaction under its privacy policy. Speech synthesis runs locally after the assets are ready.

Apple's App Privacy taxonomy describes the provider data above as Coarse Location, Other Diagnostic Data, and Product Interaction. Each is declared as linked to the user, not used for tracking, and used for App Functionality, Analytics, and Other purposes. These disclosures apply only to the direct GitHub Pages and Hugging Face requests; they do not mean Studio AM receives the reading record or provider analytics.

3. On-device reading assistance

Dictionary lookup uses the device dictionary. Listen-along uses an installed system voice or the optional downloaded natural voice. On compatible iOS or iPadOS 26 devices, the optional reading tutor and recall judgement use Apple Intelligence on-device. Studio AM does not receive the passage, recall, question, or generated response.

If the tutor declines a question, Fluency can offer to open a DuckDuckGo search in your default browser. Nothing is opened automatically. Only when you choose that button does the exact question leave the app, under the browser and search provider's policies.

4. Your data controls

Your data remains accessible without a subscription. From Your data, you can view every stored record, export a complete lossless JSON file plus a readable plain-text summary, or delete everything. Export opens the system share sheet and sends files only to the destination you choose. Deletion removes the local record from the app and cannot be undone.

5. Notifications

Reading reminders are off by default and use local notifications. If enabled, their time is handled on-device. They are canceled when verified paid access ends.

6. Subscriptions and earlier purchases

Fluency offers monthly and annual auto-renewable subscriptions through Apple. Eligible new subscribers may receive a 3-day trial; Apple shows eligibility, local price, and terms before purchase. A former one-time product is no longer sold, but Apple can restore verified historical owners. Studio AM does not receive your name, email address, or payment details from StoreKit.

7. Children's privacy

Fluency is designed for adults and serious English learners, is not directed at children under 13, and does not request a child's name, email address, Studio AM account, or reading record. The file-service request metadata described above is handled under the providers' policies.

8. Changes to this policy

If the app's data practices change, this page will be updated and the effective date revised before the change ships.
