Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
What does Pocket Lingo do?
It is an offline emergency language aid and private travel translator for iPhone and iPad. Rescue Kit provides bundled, full-screen emergency phrases without a subscription, model, or signal. Pro adds on-device text, speech, photo, menu, and two-way conversation translation, plus a phrasebook and practice.
How do I open Rescue Kit quickly?
Open Rescue Kit from the first item in Pocket Lingo’s drawer. Pocket Lingo also provides an Open Rescue Kit App Shortcut that you can run with Siri or assign to the iPhone Action button. Rescue remains available without Pro, a translation model, or an internet connection.
Which languages does it support?
Translation coverage depends on the active on-device model. The optional enhanced model supports up to 22 languages. The built-in phrasebook separately covers 14 travel languages.
Does it really work offline?
Yes, after any required model setup. Text, voice, camera, photo, menu, and conversation translation run on-device. The phrasebook needs no translation model, and read-aloud works when a compatible system voice is installed. A connection is still needed to download a model or use App Store purchase and restore services.
Which devices does it work on?
Pocket Lingo requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. It uses Apple Intelligence where available or offers an optional enhanced-model download on supported devices. The app explains the available path during setup; unsupported hardware cannot run translation features.
The app says translation needs a model. How do I fix that?
On an Apple Intelligence device, make sure Apple Intelligence is enabled and ready. On another supported device, follow Pocket Lingo’s setup for the optional enhanced model. Keep the device on Wi-Fi and power until the download finishes, then reopen the app.
How do I hear pronunciation?
When a compatible system voice is installed, tap the speaker on any translation or phrase. It reads aloud with the current word highlighted, so you can follow along. Tap again to stop.
Is my data private?
Pocket Lingo requires no Studio AM account, cloud translation, tracking, or ads. Translation performed in the app stays on-device. If you choose an optional model download, the app requests a fixed file from Hugging Face without sending your translation content; the provider may receive connection metadata under its privacy policy. If you decline a result and explicitly choose web search, that query opens in an external service.
Are translations always perfect?
Model-generated translations run on-device and pass a target-language check, but that does not prove the wording is correct. Pocket Lingo also attempts a back-translation comparison; a seal appears only when that check completes and matches. Built-in phrasebook results are labeled separately. For anything important, including medical or legal information, confirm with a qualified person.
Is there a free plan, and what does Pro cost?
There is no general free translation or learning tier. The Rescue Kit, with emergency numbers, SOS guidance, and bundled emergency phrases, remains available without a subscription or translation model. Monthly and yearly subscriptions are sold to new customers. The App Store shows the current local price and any introductory offer for which you are eligible before purchase. The older lifetime product is no longer sold but remains restore-only for verified previous owners.
What happens if my subscription ends?
Your saved translations and phrases remain readable, searchable, exportable, and deletable in the archive, and the Rescue Kit remains available. New translations, phrasebook, lessons, drills, practice, camera, menu, conversation, and other translation or learning routes remain locked until you restore access.
