Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.

What is Sam?

Sam pairs an iPhone board with a private Mac studio-operations assistant. Approved schedules can run briefs, research, site and GitHub watches, and a Studio Pulse over public feeds plus optional weather and market context. The iPhone shows reports, approvals, directions, and files through your private iCloud database.

Can Sam monitor social, weather, or market data?

Studio Pulse reads up to eight public RSS, Atom, or JSON Feed URLs, a manually entered weather place through your Open-Meteo commercial account, and up to eight symbols through your Twelve Data account. Provider keys stay in the Mac login keychain. Sam does not automate logged-in social pages, scrape finance websites, trade, or give investment advice.

Can I use cron schedules?

Yes. Chore files accept classic five-field cron timing as well as daily, weekly, and interval schedules. A cron expression chooses a time only; it never contains or runs a command. Sam must be running; a task missed while Sam is away catches up once after the next launch or wake.

What does the iPhone app do?

It shows each Mac’s status, recent runs, capped report text, messages, and pending approvals. You can reply to a report, send a new direction, or attach text, a photo, or a file. A compatible Mac claims the direction. If that edition cannot perform it, Sam records an explicit refusal instead of pretending the work ran.

Do I need the Mac app?

Yes. Work runs on a Mac signed in to the same Apple Account. The Mac must be powered on and Sam must be running when a chore becomes due or a direction is picked up. Until then, the iPhone board can be empty and queued directions remain in your private iCloud database.

How do the iPhone and Mac stay in sync?

Through your own iCloud private database. Sign in with the same Apple Account on both devices and they find each other automatically. There is no Studio AM server, no account to create, and no pairing code, only your iCloud, which Studio AM cannot read.

Is my data private?

Studio AM has no Sam account or server and cannot read your private CloudKit database. Directions, capped run reports, messages, approvals, status, and files you choose to send can travel through that database. Local notes and unrelated files are not uploaded merely because Sam can read them for a task. There are no ads, tracking, or third-party analytics.

What does Sam need to run?

The iPhone app requires iOS 26 and an iCloud account. Sam on the Mac requires macOS 26; its smart features use Apple Intelligence when available and always fall back to deterministic output when it is not.

Why is a chore waiting for my approval?

By design, Sam proposes and you decide. A proposed chore does not become active, and a proposed memory is not added, until you approve it on the Mac or iPhone. Rejecting it leaves that proposal unapplied.

What is different in the Mac App Store edition?

The sandboxed App Store edition runs supported scheduled chores, but it cannot dispatch coding agents, run the local-git repo watch, or read App Store Connect credentials outside its container. Those capabilities belong to the separate direct-download edition. When the App Store edition receives unsupported work, its report says so plainly.

How do subscriptions work?

Sam shows the current plans, localized prices, and any eligible offer returned by Apple on its purchase screen. A verified subscription enables scheduled Pro chores. Do not rely on a price or trial quoted outside that screen, because eligibility and storefront terms can differ.

How long do file drops remain in iCloud?

The device that sends a drop removes its CloudKit record after 30 days. A received file saved on a Mac remains your file until you delete it. Sam refuses files over 200 MB and warns before sending files over 25 MB because they use your iCloud storage while in transit.
