Answers to common questions, and how to reach us.
What does Second Brain do?
Capture any thought by typing, talking, or sharing text from another app, and Second Brain remembers it for you. Later, ask a question in plain words and it gives you a short, sourced answer drawn from what you saved. Reminders come back when they are due, and Reflect shows themes in your notes. AI processing runs privately on your iPhone or iPad.
Which devices does it work on, and why?
Second Brain requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. Devices with Apple Intelligence use Apple's built-in on-device model. Other supported devices may be offered a pinned Gemma or LFM on-device model downloaded directly from Hugging Face. The app checks the device during setup and explains the available path; unsupported devices cannot run the AI features.
The app says "Apple Intelligence needed." How do I fix that?
On an Apple Intelligence device, open Settings › Apple Intelligence & Siri and make sure Apple Intelligence is enabled and ready. On another supported device, follow the in-app setup for the downloadable on-device model. Keep the device on Wi-Fi and power while any required model finishes downloading, then reopen Second Brain.
Is my data private?
AI processing and transcription run on your device. Studio AM has no account, analytics, advertising, or tracking and receives no note or voice content. Notes stay local by default; optional private iCloud sync is off until enabled and uses your private iCloud database. Pinned model and Kokoro natural-voice files download directly from Hugging Face without saved app content in the requests. Hugging Face may process linked approximate-location, diagnostic, and download-interaction metadata without tracking; Studio AM receives none of that provider data. See the Privacy Policy for the exact categories and provider link.
What happens if I tap “Search the web”?
This option appears only after Ask has no grounded answer. Tapping it opens the exact question as a DuckDuckGo query in your default browser, where DuckDuckGo and browser privacy terms apply. Second Brain never sends the question automatically.
Can I trust the answers?
Second Brain answers only from your own notes and shows the cited evidence for every answer. A voice-transcript citation opens the relevant recording moment only when the app has an exact, honest time alignment; otherwise it shows attribution without pretending to know the second. When it does not have something, it says "I don’t have that" instead of making an answer up. Answers are still AI-generated by a small on-device model, so check anything important against the cited source.
How do reminders work?
When you capture something like "remind me to email Sam tomorrow at 9," Second Brain recognizes the time on-device and schedules a local notification. Swipe a reminder to mark it done. Reminders are scheduled entirely on your phone; nothing is sent anywhere.
How do I capture by voice or from other apps?
Use dictation when you want spoken words turned directly into text, start a voice memo for a quick recording, or choose Record a meeting for the consent-aware meeting flow. A recording you start may continue while the app is in the background, and on-device transcription makes it searchable afterward. To save text from another app, use Share and choose Second Brain. The app never starts recording by itself.
Can I take notes while recording a meeting or lecture?
Yes. The meeting flow asks you to confirm that everyone present permits recording and lets you add an optional title or context. While it records, tap Take notes to open the same saved item with an elapsed-time marker; you can keep typing and can stop the microphone from that editor. Your typed notes remain untimed text, while the separately aligned transcript supplies recording timestamps. Recording laws vary, so record only when everyone knows and agrees.
Is there a free plan, and what does Pro include?
There is no functional free plan. Monthly and annual subscriptions use the current local price and any eligible introductory offer shown by the App Store before purchase. Pro authorizes new notes, recordings, imports, reminders, Ask, Reflect, and other AI output.
What can I do after a subscription ends?
Archive mode blocks new notes, recordings, imports, reminders, and AI output. Previously saved notes remain readable and searchable, recordings remain playable, and existing items remain deletable. The only export offered there is the complete archive ZIP.
I subscribed or bought the older lifetime unlock, but Pro is not showing. What do I do?
Open Settings or the plans screen and tap Restore Purchases. Monthly and yearly subscriptions are the only options sold to new customers. The retired lifetime product remains restore-only for people who previously bought it. If a verified purchase still does not appear, email us.
What does export include?
With an active subscription, Settings offers Markdown with note and Ask text and structured JSON; both omit media and are non-restorable records. After a subscription ends, archive mode offers only the separate complete archive ZIP with available original photos and voice-recording audio. That ZIP is a non-restorable complete export/data package, not an app backup or restore path.
What does Second Brain download from Hugging Face?
Depending on device support, setup can download a pinned Gemma artifact or LFM bundle directly from Hugging Face. Optional Natural Voice downloads pinned Kokoro deployment files from the same provider. These fixed-file requests contain no note text, transcript, recording audio, question, answer, or other saved app content. Hugging Face can receive ordinary connection, diagnostic, and download-interaction metadata under https://huggingface.co/privacy; Studio AM receives none of that provider data. After download, inference and natural-voice playback stay on-device.
