Practice the part that requires speaking
Reading and vocabulary matter, but they do not replace answering someone in real time. Chatter gives an A2–B1 learner a private conversation partner that can wait, respond in character, and let the learner try again without scheduling a tutor or sending speech to a cloud AI service.

When bounded local checks accept a wording suggestion that preserves your meaning, Chatter shows the exact changed words and a short reason. Say It Again lets you speak the checked line once more, and Practice Again can return an accepted phrase later from the saved source.

What the feedback measures
Chatter is a conversation and phrasing coach, not a pronunciation judge. Its recap can summarize speaking pace, filler words, and answer-length trends from spoken turns. Say It Again compares an on-device transcript with an improved sentence so the learner can practice the wording; it does not score an accent or claim to diagnose pronunciation.
Generated suggestions can be wrong. Chatter uses a deterministic word comparison for the visible changes, but the proposed sentence still comes from a compatible on-device model and should be treated as a useful prompt rather than a grammar textbook. The app does not prove that any two arbitrary sentences have the same meaning.
Private by architecture
Speech recognition, partner replies, checked wording, recaps, and transcript matching run on the iPhone or iPad. Chatter keeps no microphone recording. The transcript, accepted wording, recap, and speaking duration can be saved in the local archive; the app does not sync that archive through CloudKit and has no Studio AM account or ads. Studio AM receives no conversation content, product analytics, or tracking data.
Some devices can use Apple’s built-in on-device model. Other compatible devices may be offered an optional conversation model downloaded directly from Hugging Face based on actual memory and free storage. Pro can also download optional natural-voice files directly from Hugging Face. Neither request contains voice, transcript, conversation, partner reply, or other practice content. The conversation model is stored in Chatter’s app-local container rather than a shared App Group, and natural-voice playback stays on-device after download. Hugging Face may collect CoarseLocation, OtherDiagnosticData, and ProductInteraction with linked=true and tracking=false for AppFunctionality, Analytics, and Other purposes under its own privacy policy. Studio AM does not receive that provider data, product analytics, or tracking. Download size, model availability, memory, and storage needs vary by device. Those downloads and App Store purchase or restore require a connection; practice works offline after the selected model is ready.
Your archive stays yours
An active monthly or annual subscription, or a restored legacy lifetime entitlement, covers Daily Rehearsal, starting and continuing conversations, checked wording, coaching, metrics, Say It Again, Practice Again, and voice output. The monthly and annual plans unlock the same Pro feature level. If access ends, none of that fresh work continues, but saved work is not held hostage. The archive remains available to read, search, export, and delete. Export includes human-readable Markdown plus a lossless, versioned JSON file containing every saved field.
The App Store purchase sheet shows the subscription products actually available to you, their local prices, eligibility, renewal periods, and terms. There is no general free AI-practice tier. A retired lifetime purchase is no longer sold, but Chatter continues to recognize and restore it for verified earlier owners.
